Say goodbye to BJP, we are ready
Cong sends feelers to PDP
1/4/2016 11:01:36 AM

Early Times Report
srinagar, Jan 3: As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to take advantage of the emerging situation in Jammu and Kashmir in wake of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed being unwell the State Congress has started sending feelers to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it can say goodbye to BJP and join hands with the Congress if the need arises.
Sources told Early Times that Congress leaders are aware about the fact that if there is a change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir there is every possibility about BJP putting forth new conditions and PDP may not like it. "A few Congress leaders have held closed door meetings with the PDP leaders and have assured them that if the need arises Congress would come forward to support the PDP," sources claimed.
They said Congress which won just 12 seats in the 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has realized that if it stays away from power for the next five years then chances of party getting revived in JK are minimal. "A few Congress leaders believe that they can rope in M Y Tarigami, Hakim Mohammad Yaseen and Er Rashid if they are able to strike a deal with the PDP. The only hinge is Er Rashid as he cannot be relied upon due to his whimsical nature," a source said.
However, PDP leaders maintain that there is no threat to the PDP-BJP coalition as PDP had joined hands with BJP after holding threadbare discussions with BJP Central leadership. "We have got nothing to do with local BJP leaders and their demands, and wishes. In democracy everyone has a right to put forth his view so they can say whatever they want. We are least concerned about what BJP leaders are speculating," said a PDP leader.
He claimed, "Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is recovering and there is no need to panic. At the most we may need a caretaker CM at place till Mufti Sayeed recovers."
Sources revealed that PDP has got it conveyed to local BJP leaders to "act in a responsible manner" and don't let the people feel that there is any threat to coalition. "It's really unfortunate that a few BJP leaders are spreading canards and are creating an impression that all is not well within the coalition," PDP leaders are understood to have got it conveyed to BJP high command in New Delhi.
Insiders said, "PDP has not outrightly rejected the Congress offer but have politely conveyed it to the party leadership that time is not appropriate to discuss all these matters as for them health of the Chief Minister is the priority at this point of time. After he (Mufti) is discharged from the AIIMS we will see how the situation emerges and then we will see."
Sources claimed on the other hand a few BJP leaders are adamant and want the party high command to revisit the terms of alliance as most of them believe that BJP didn't get its due share as all the plum ministries and the Chief Minister's post are with the PDP.
