1/3/2016 11:28:59 PM
Early Times Report

Budgam, Jan 3: As the discussions on leasing out Doodhpathri, a famous tourist resort in Budgam district are going on, the locals allege that this decision would be disastrous for tourism and would directly affect the livelihood of hundreds of local people. The local MLA of the area Hakim Mohammad Yasin has also shown his concern regarding the issue.
The residents from villages in Raiyar , Mujpathri , Draggar , Basant Wodder and adjoining areas have questioned the intentions of Government to sublet Doodpathri on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode as they allege it would only benefit a few influential people.
The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakim Muhammad Yasin who is also the MLA Khansahib has already warned the Government that he along with the locals would never allow anybody to make a sell out of Doodhpathri. Hakim said that J&K government claims that central Government has given full funding for the development of tourism destinations in the state. "Then what is the need to lease out Doodpathri on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode," he said while talking to Early Times.
"Already we have given our water resources on PP mode to NHPC. Successive governments have been making claims that they will take back these hydel power projects back, but it has proven a hoax. All the political parties make promises during elections that they will take back projects from NHPC, but in vain. NHPC is exploiting water resources of Jammu & Kashmir and people of the state are suffering on account of electricity. Now it seems that the state government is attempting to sell tourist destinations to capitalists as they did in case of NHPC " Hakim added
The MLA has warned that any such decision will have an adverse effect on the livelihood of people of the area.
Abdul Rashi a local resident of Mujpathree questioned the government why it was adamant to give Doodpathri on PP mode? Locals say that If government wants to generate revenue let them lease out Gulmarg and Pahalgam on PP mode.
" If government really sincere and concerned about developing Doodpathri, let them give full funding to Doodpathri Development Authority (DDA) so that better infrastructure is provided in Doodhpathri" said Sheikh Zahoor Social activist and educationist from Khansahib Budgam
The locals have said that they will never allow anybody to disturb the natural beauty of Doodpathri and neither will allow anybody to interfere in its affairs.
"Doodhpathri hamarai hai iskaa faisla ham karaingay (Doodhpathri is ours and we will decide about it)" said Mehrajudin another local resident who runs a small tea shop in Doodhpathri
