2 yrs on, 1300 casual workers of PDD in Jammu without wages | | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 7: Around 1300 casual workers of Power Development Department (PDD) in Jammu district are without wages for last two years. Rakesh Sharma, a casual worker of PDD Jammu Division-I criticizesd Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, for his failure to meet the demands of poor employees, in spite of several representations. "Hundreds of casual worker had been engaged by state government in PDD on temporary basis across the division but it failed to clear the dues despite lapse of two years", they said, adding that Rs. 3000 per month were paid as wages to each casual labourer even that meagre amount has not been paid timely. Another worker said that though state government should have increased the wages of casual labourers because of rising inflation, but instead of increasing salary they have stopped their little wages. "Dozens of casual labourers have died and hundreds have become totally handicapped due to electrocution while on duty", he said, adding that it was the responsibility of government to give compensation to them but astoundingly the department maintained that the deceased were not the employee of department and the files were closed. Many times commissions have been constituted by department concerned but till date nothing substantial was achieved on ground. Many times, we urged the higher authorities of concerned department to release their wages but they gave only assurance within days department would release the salary but has done nothing. XEn Jammu-I said that the government had not released funds for their wages. It was distributed into the work sanctioned by department. "I have discussed the matter with higher authority, when they release grants your wages shall be released", he concluded. |
