Separatists, DDK wake up late to CM's demise

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Even as in the era of social-networking, when by almost sunrise today, entire Jammu and Kashmir knew that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had passed away, it took separatists a complete day to condole his demise.
On the other hand, it was Bandpather and other cultural programs, being aired by the Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, till 10:30 AM when the State was in a State of mourning.
The DDK put the State to severe humiliation today by continuously airing colorful programs when elsewhere it was a State of mourning in the State.
It was only when people raised a hue and cry over the issue on Facebook and other media that the DDK authorities woke up to start airing mourning programs. "Shame on DD Kashir Channel. It continues to blare out date, repeat programs of no significance even as all TV channels are only showing Mufti Sayeed related news items. Hats-off to Radio Kashmir for changing programs in mark of respect for the departed leader," posted one Sayeed P Qalander.
One, Er AR Khan posted "Great, shameful Act by DDK, they have lost credibility, because of dirty higher ups."
Meanwhile even as Mufti has long been known for his association with separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani who in the past has remained an MLA, Geelani woke up to condole the demise at around 4:00 p.m. only when Mufti's funeral was being taken to Bjibehara.
Geelani issued a separate handout to condole the demise and express sympathies with the bereaved family. "Death is an ultimate truth. Whether one is a king or a commoner, everyone has to die," Geelani said in the statement. "Every death is a lesson for a wise human being and a reminder that his name should be remembered for good even after his death."
However, till late in the evening there was no word of condolence from other separatist leaders particularly Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
Pertinently, when Mufti took over as the Chief Minister many of the leaders from the Mirwaiz Hurriyat had visited him to express greetings. But this time they were invisible.
Interestingly even though both Mirwaiz and Malik are often seen as moderate separatists, it was hardliner Geelani who took lead to condole the demise.
Observers who were keenly watching the separatist camps said it was against the principles of Islam to have failed in timely condolence. "Death means end to ideological differences, so why to be indifferent in making condolence," said a Kashmir University teacher.
Meanwhile many people on social networks debated as to why separatists failed in timely condolence. It has exposed their double standards.
