Beigh, Karra join last rites | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed's death remained a day of reunion for Muzaffar Husain Beigh and Tariq Hameed Karra, two "rebel" MPs from the PDP, with others in the party. Source said both Beigh and Karra rushed to Mufti's Fairview residence as soon as the news broke about Mufti's demise. Beigh addressed media from time to time during the day whereas Karra maintained a low profile. Later in the day, Muzaffar Beigh and Minister Altaf Bukhari called on Governor NN Vohra and handed over a letter of support to Governor backing Mehbooba Mufti as the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. "As far as PDP is concerned, we are unanimous that Mehbooba shall succeed Mufti Sahib," senior PDP leader and Lok Sabha member Muzaffar Hussain Beigh told reporters. However, Karra, who is considered as a loyalist to the Mufti family remained close to the bereaved family, and shouldered the coffin of the late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. |
