Avinash Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 7: Amid controversy over purchase of irrelevant books by JU recently, another books scam involving Jai Kumar Sharma, the then Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor has come to the fore. Documents available with Early Times revealed that books issued in favour of Jai Kumar Sharma, since 2004 from varsity's library have not been returned till date. "Guide to Health issued on June 25, 2004, Autobiography of Farooq Abdullah, May 6, 2008, Who Will Cry May 12, 2008, The Power of Positive Thinking August 12, 2008, Micro Economic Theory June 11, 2008, Indian Economic October 13, 2008, Hand Book of UGC V.I, Hand Book of UGC V.II and Hand of UGC V.III were issued on January 12, 2010", these books were issued in favour of Jai Kumar, sources said. They further said that throwing rules into bin, former Vigilance officer and in-charge legal cell, Jai Kumar has not returned books. "Mentioned books borrowed by you from DDE Library are due. You are requested to return these books at the earliest, i.e within one week from the issue of this letter", copy of official communique addressing Jai Kumar for outstanding books reads. Sources further said that it reflects that there are no rules in University for bosses. "Under rule teaching faculty can retain 10 books and non-teaching staff can retain two books for maximum period of one month", sources said, adding that un-fortunately, despite lapse of around 12 years, no action against 'disciplined' officer has been taken, nor he has obeyed the rules. It is pertinent to mention here that the Director CDC Jai Kumar Sharma had allegedly purchased books worth Rs 40,000 for doctor daughter from University's exchequer. Meanwhile the JU administration in medical books scam, attempting damage control, had issued show cause notice to Kumar and Librarian University of Jammu, for medical books scam that surfaced in JU in the month of July last. |
