Udhampur, Jan 7: Four months have lapsed after the formal announcement of bridges and skywalks to decongest the traffic on Udhampur Roads but all proposed bridges and skywalks particularly in accident prone spots are still a 'distant dream ' for local population. If recalled here, in a bid to decongest traffic particularly the accident-prone Military Hospital Chowk in Udhampur, the district administration in collaboration with the Army and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has finalized a blue print of one Over Foot (Skywalk) bridge, two Foot Bridges and one Double Span Bridge over Devika near Military Hospital Chowk on Jammu Srinagar National Highway some four months ago. "But as the things used to happen the ambitious projects have been again put to back burner as despite lapse of four month even foundation stone has not been laid down by authorities, " locals alleged, adding, "the news in this regard was appeared in media with glares." General Secretary Udhampur Development Council, Parvesh Kumar Parihar said that the delay in executing of proposed project by the administration has created apprehension among locals that the projects may not see the dawn in near future too. He added that everyone had appreciated proposed move of administration to launch project four months back as people in main Udhampur town were feeling huge inconvenience due traffic chaos. Parihar and others added that the dire need of the hour was to decongest traffic in entire city as the city was struggling to handle the multifold increase in number of vehicles over the last couple of years. They said four months ago district administration bran child a new project and announced the work on projects will commence within a fortnight while the double lane bridge will be initiated by the end of year but till date no work has been started. When contacted Commandant Border Roads Organisation Udhampur said that the execution of project is time consuming and process is on in this regard. He further added that it will take some time as we had sent DPR (Detailed Project Report) for sanction to higher authorities and once we get the nod from higher ups the works will be executed. |
