NSF protests against JU authorities, seeks Governor's intervention | | | Jammu, Jan 7 : The National Secular Forum (NSF) protested demonstration against the Jammu University (JU) authorities for raking up the controversy over recommendations of Prof. SP Thayagrajan Committee on 'Minimum Standards Procedure' for Award of Ph.D degrees, leaving hundreds of aspirants for the posts of Assistant Professors facing PSC interview in a state of shock. Addressing a gathering here today, NSF District Chairman Amit Sanotra stated that PSC has decided not to accept "equivalence or general certificate ", which does not indicate the award of Ph.D degree under the UGC Requlation 2009, leaving hundereds of assistant professor in degree colleges confused and mystified. He said that the PSC has decided to allow all the shortlisted candidates to appear in the interview for the posts of assistant professor to be held from today to 10th Jan with a rider that they would have to produce a document containing the date of registration under PhD programme and date of implementation of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for awards of Mphil/ PhD Degree) Regulation, 2009 by January 15. He also said recall of MSP certificates and that too at a moment when PSC was about to conduct the interview for Assistant Professors in state colleges, was a shocking step. "The notification issued by JU in this regard has left hundreds of Ph.D awardees of University in panic as the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has already issued the schedule for conducting interviews for Assistant Professor posts', starting from first week of January, and the Ph.D awardees of JU would be automatically thrown out," he added. "Given this notification, Ph.D degrees of JU will not be considered by PSC but there are reports that University of Kashmir has given the MSP. Therefore, the Ph.D awardees of Kashmir University or other universities will be selected and those from Jammu University would be left out", he mentioned. Squarely blaming Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma responsible for this mess, he said. "The recall of MSP certificates by JU just few days after issuance of same, narrates the negligence of authorities, who were unaware about the developments in the past one year in higher education sector and University Grants Commission (UGC). Hence they have no right to continue on their position." The NSF sought the immediate intervention of Governor in this regard to save the future of hundreds of highly qualified youth. The NSF also demanded immediate removal of incompetent Vice Chancellor of JU from his position. |
