Continued disruption of power supply irks residents of Miran Sahib | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 18: Regular disruption in power supply in Miran Sahib area has made the life of residents miserable even in winter season despite payment of the electricity bills by the consumers on time. While talking to Early Times, quite a number of people from Miran Sahib area narrated the tales of woes experienced due to pathetic attitude of the PDD and not taking timely action to surmount the problem by upgrading the Receiving Station vis-à-vis expansion of colonies since decades. The Sarpanch of Maralia-Krishana Nagar, Kishore Kumar Sharma informed that locals have been pestering him saying that they are suffering power cuts over and above the schedule chalked out for supply of electricity. He said that the a couple of months back, large number of aggrieved consumers staged dharna protest in Miran Sahib blocking the road for hours together, which was lifted after assurance given by the concerned authority that the upgradation of the existing Receiving Station Miran Sahib, which is the solution to their problem, shall be put into place by ending December 2015, but in vain. He apprehended that the coming summer season is going to badly hit the life of people there. He demanded that permanent meters are required to be installed so that the electricity billing should be genuine and as per the power used by the consumers. Om Parkash Khajauria, HR Activist expressing his anguish informed that the old electricity wires of the area have become obsolete and these old wires often melt and fall down on the streets risking lives of the passerby. Sources informed Early Times that the present 33/11 KV. Receiving Station with 2x6.3 MVA at Miran Sahib is in existence for the last over fifteen years during which a large number of colonies have come up and the present Station is not sufficient to cater to the power requirement of the people resulting into public outcry. The sources further divulged that the proposal of the power Department for augmentation of the existing 33/11 KV Receiving Station Miran Sahib from 2x6.3 MVA to 2x10 MVA has been approved under Deen Dayual Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) with supplementary DPR at a cost of Rs. 157.12 lacs further said adding that the matter is still hanging in the balance and tightly stuck up at the procedural level with scant hope for upgradation of the Miran Sahib Receiving Station in the near future and early redressal of genuine grievances. The Chief Engineer PDD could not be contacted for taking his version, despite repeated phone calls |
