Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 18: At a time when the BJP-PDP bonhomie is witnessing sour moments, details are coming to fore, revealing why the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is taking so much time to make public her decision over continuing her party's alliance with its coalition partner in JK.
The delay in the much awaited relief package and the funds needed for the development of the state are emerging as the core issues which led PDP to rethink about the coalition.
Sources within the party told Early Times that Mehbooba Mufti was deeply hurt over witnessing how the BJP in New Delhi was taking her father's assertions non-seriously and virtually undermining the agenda of alliance-signed between the two parties last year ahead of forming the government in JK.
Sources said that the funds which the GOI was ought to approve for the state's overall development were constantly delayed, adding PDP's apprehensions and fears about continuing with the coalition. During the tenure of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, sources said, more than three times, the central grant was delayed for the Jammu and Kashmir.
With Mehbooba, as the PDP chief, keenly observing the developments, had several times asked her father to revisit the strategy, adopted by the party with the BJP.
A senior party leader said that even a day before Mufti breathed his last at AIIMS, New Delhi, he asked his daughter Mehbooba Mufti to confirm whether the relief amount meant for the rehabilitation of the flood victims was disbursed by the GOI. "Mufti sahib deep within was saddened to witness such a cold response from the BJP high command to his proposals for the state. Mehbooba being her daughter was privy to everything. She knew how BJP was treating her father even during his last days," said the party leader.
There are also reports of Mehbooba expressing her disgruntlement against the BJP before the union Home Minister Rajnath Singh when he came to Kashmir for taking part in Mufti's last rites. Sources have also confirmed that Mehbooba, at that time was crisper and clear, telling Rajnath that her party would re-think about its strategy over going with the BJP.
PDP chief's such assertions didn't only perturbed the union home minister but also the BJP high command who was appraised about what is going on in Mehbooba's mind after the death of her father.
"The reason why it is taking so long for the PDP to re-enter into the alliance with the BJP is that Mehbooba is deeply hurt over what the party did to her father. She is not revealing her decision to anyone within the party and that is why there are different voices coming to fore," divulged a senior party worker.
Meanwhile reports informed that the BJP in the recent days has again striving for the reconciliation and part of this effort was to send Union Expenditure Secretary Rattan Wattal to meet Mehbooba Mufti at her Fairveiw residence. Though the meet was downplayed by the BJP but it was Wattal who assured Mehbooba of central grants coming to the state sans any delay from now on. He, as per sources, also guaranteed of no delay in any project meant for state's development.
Meanwhile, it is yet to be witnessed when and how both the party's would form the government again with Mehbooba as its new head.
