Desperate for alliance, Madhav invokes Mufti | Initiating constitutional process | | ET Report jammu, Jan 18: It is now almost clear that there is much that still remains unresolved between the PDP and the BJP. Had there been perfect understanding between the two parties as was the case in February-March in 2015, the PDP-BJP coalition government would have been very much in place by now. In fact, what transpired in Srinagar on Sunday during the much talked about meeting of the core group of the PDP and what PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and her spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said and the kind of response it evoked from the BJP leadership the same day only indicated that all was not well with the PDP-BJP coalition. If still there was any doubt, it was cleared on Monday by BJP national general secretary and in-charge of Jammu & Kashmir Ram Madhav, who is also the BJP high command's point-man in the state. He invoked Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and urged Mehbooba Mufti to initiate the constitutional process so that a duly-elected government was in place in the state. "The Peoples Democratic Party should initiate the constitutional process and then the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will work accordingly," he told. "It was good that the PDP wants to continue alliance with the BJP," he said, and added that "it was decided by late Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and should be respected". That Ram Madhav invoked late Mufti Sayeed and urged his daughter Mehbooba Mufti to respect his decision should clinch the whole issue and establish that the PDP and the BJP have to walk several miles before they could clinch the power-sharing formula for the remaining term. His interview also established that while the BJP is fully prepared for an alliance with the PDP, the PDP wants to take some more time so that it could be in a position to function from a position of strength. |
