Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 18: The Handicrafts Department Jammu and Kashmir organized the 'Handicrafts export cum sale 2016' has turned a failure with only few people turned up to the exhibition. The 'Handicrafts export cum sale 2016' was inaugurated by former Commerce and Industries Minister Chandra Prakash on January 3 in presence of the then MoS Mohammad Ashraf Mir and other officials of the department. However, despite the Handicrafts Department having spent above Rs 10 lakh, only few people had shown interest in visiting the exhibition. The exhibition was to remain open from January 3 to 17 but after seeing its failure, the organizers have further extended it so that the participants don't witness heavy losses. "It turned a complete flop show which was held at Kala Kendra Jammu. There was very less participation of the people," people from various societies who have installed their stalls in the exhibition said. They said this was an export exhibition but due to lack of promotion a very few people knew about it. "If the organizers had given some publicity to the expo then huge crowd would have turned up. It has proved to be a flop show by failure on part of the organizers," they said. They said the "ill planning" of the Handloom department turned it a failure. "No arrangements were made for the exhibition. We regret why we have installed in the exhibition," they said. Terming the exhibition as a formality by concerned department, people from these societies said the Handicrafts Department had not made proper planning about the event. "There should have been proper publicity about the event but very little people knew about it. It was organized just an event serial." Director Handicrafts nullifying the reports said that there was an excellent response for the exhibition. "The societies did a business in laks there. It would not be right to say that it was a failure," he said and added that 10 to 12 lacs were spent on this exhibition. Deputy Director Handicrafts Department said around 50 stalls was installed with participation of 40 societies. However, she didn't divulge the details why less people turned up for the exhibition. |
