Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 18 : BSNL, a government-owned telecom service provider in order to entice customers after facing strong criticism for its poor and irksome service, Monday announced to install 3G network towers in Srinagar to improve the system. Addressing a press conference, General Manger, BSNL Kashmir zone, Mohammad Saleem Baig, claimed that 2014 floods had left the entire system defunct which had now been restored to provide better service to its customers. He said besides suffering damages worth crores, the department had also lost the official record of customers. "The 2014 floods caused severe damages to the department. We agree that our customers faced problems but we dedicatedly worked day and night to improve the system for the larger satisfaction of our users," Baig said.
He requested the customers to refill the details of their address proof and informed that BSNL was also going to install 125 3G towers throughout the city besides providing WiFi hotspot services for faster internet browsing. He said the towers would be installed before March 2016. "We have also decided to slash the call rates of both prepaid and postpaid connections by eighty per cent. The new call tariff will be 3 seconds per paisa from BSNL to BSNL while as the charges to another network will be one paisa for 2 seconds," he said. Baig said that the new scheme was applicable to new and existing customers and the new connections would be activated the same day. "The department is also going to organize camps at all district headquarters including Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag so that the new customers enjoy better and faster services," said the G M. He claimed that the poor BSNL network service was the result of the 2014 floods that wrecked havoc across the state in 2014.
He appealed to all the BSNL customers to register their complaints on toll free number 198 without roaming here and there for redressal of their complaints.
"People need not run form pillar to post as they only need to register their complaints on computer generated toll free number regarding their problems and their grievances will be accordingly addressed," he said.
