Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 27: The School of Philosophy and Culture (SOPC) organized a week workshop on the Constitution of India, concluded. According to press release, the workshop concluded with Guest Lecture by M.K Sharma, Principle Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah. Dr VK Tripathi, Director, School of Philosophy and Culture extended a warm welcome to M K Sharma and gave his brief introduction. Moreover other faculty members Ashok Tarai, Dr. Narendra Kumar, Dr. Saurabh and Sudesh Kumar were also present. The lecture was attended by research scholars and students of different schools. The topic of lecture was "Indian Judicial System". Sharma described constitution with its goals and challenges. He discussed about the three organs (Legislative, Executive and Judicial) of Govt. He said that according to data available with the apex court, the number of pending cases with the Supreme Court is 64,919 as on December 1, 2014. The data available for the 24 High Courts and lower courts up to the year ending 2013 showed pendency of 44.5 lakhs and whopping 2.6 crores, respectively. Of the over 44 lakh cases pending in the 24 high courts of the country, 34,32,493 were civil and 10,23,739 criminal. According to him the reason behind the large number of pending cases is inadequate infrastructure and less number of judges. He also enlightens the 'mediating' process in which a mediator felicitates the sitting of the parties which leads to the decision that is acceptable to both parties. Also, he explained the limitations of 'mediating' process as it cannot be applied to cases such as murder and other criminal case. Furthermore, he talked about "Legal Services Act" and its importance. At the end he attended to the queries of the audience. A lecture was followed by a valedictory session for giving away the participation certificates. The participation certificates to the participants were given by guest speaker MK Sharma. Vineet Dubey stood first, Ubaid Bashit stood second and Abhinav Shukla and Rishabh Suri secured third position and Chandan Maurya was given consolation prize. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. V. K. Tripathi, Director, SOPC. He commended the faculty members, students and scholars for their contribution to the workshop and said that the students of all streams should take advantage of such events in the campus. |
