'DC restrains tehsildar from demolishing structure'

Kulgam, Jan 27: Two influential people backed by a politician have allegedly encroached Maqbozah Ahle Islam land in Matipora Zaban area of Kulgam district, official communications revealed on Wednesday.
Documents revealed that two influential residents Abdul Khaliq Mir and Manzoor Ahmad Mir encroached upon the land worth Lakhs of rupees and constructed few shops on it.
Villagers accused former Deputy Commissioner Kulgam R K Bhat of helping the encroachers and said that encroachers managed to construct few shops on the land despite the matter was brought into his notice through Chief Minister's grievance cell. Local social activist, Dr Bari Naik informed Early Times that Tehsildar Yaripora too filed a misleading report with Deputy Commissioner's office.
Documents in possession of ET reveal that duo has encroached Maqbozah Ahle-Islam land under survey number 15 in Matipora Zaban. Documents reveal that in the month of May in 2015, Tehsildar Yaripora along with subordinate officials arrived in village to demolish the structures illegally raised on Maqbozah Ahle-Islam land.
According to official communication dated 19th of November 2015, Tehsildar Yaripora along with police officials arrived in the village and demolished the structures; however the villagers rebut the official claim and said nothing was demolished.
"The undersigned proceeded on spot along with the police officials in the month of May for demolishing the structures illegally raised by Abdul Khaliq Mir and Manzoor Ahmad Mir residents of Matipora Zaban. During the demolition drive some inhabitants came out with heavy sticks and started beating officials resulting injury of Naib Tehsildar and also his personnel vehicle got damaged, however illegal structure were removed," reads the official letter written by Tehsildar to DC Kulgam.
However, villagers refuted the official claim and said that structures raised illegally stand enacted on the land. When contacted, Tehsildar Yaripora, Mohd Amin Dar, claimed that former DC Kulgam asked him to stop demolition drive on politicians behest.
"Former Deputy Commissioner Kulgam R K Bhat asked me to stop demolition drive on that day but still I tried to remove the structures," Dar said, adding action was initiated after locals filed a complaint with CM's grievance cell. Tehsildar said that he wasn't aware about the current status of land or case. Former DC Kulgam R K Bhat was not available for comment.
