Fresh snowfall on upper reaches, night witness improvement, day become cold | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 27: The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam, received fresh snowfall resulting in drop in the day temperature though minimum temperature recorded major improvement. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that isolated to widespread rain could occur in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region during the next five days. Weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in Ladakh region followed by scattered and isolated rain till January 31. After witnessing bone chilling dry weather conditions due to below freezing temperature for about a month, the minimum temperature recorded major improvement mainly because of cloudy sky during the night. Barring Pahalgam and Gulmarg, where ski slopes received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature witnessed surge. The ski resort in north Kashmir, about 55 km from here, received fresh snowfall today, much to the delight of tourists and locals, who were praying for snow to end about month-long dry conditions. The upper reaches, including Khilanmarg, Kongdori and Affarwat received moderate to heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours. Met spokesman said the minimum temperature at Gulmarg recorded a drop due to icy cold winds following fresh snowfall. Against yesterday's minus 2.6 degree,the minimum temperature dropped and settled at minus 5.4 degree, still about two notches above normal. Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also witnessed drop in the minimum temperature due to snowfall though it was still above normal. Against yesterdays minus 1.9 degree, it was minus 2.3 degree, four notches above normal. The summer capital, Srinagar, also recorded further improvement in the night temperature. Against 1 degree, it was 2.2 degree, three notches above normal due to cloudy sky during the night in the city. |
