Poonch, Feb 17: : Irate over the behavior of Police for allegedly demanding bribe in a case, people of Mendhar today staged a protest and blocked Mendhar- Jammu road at Sangla Chowk for nearly two hours thereby affecting the normal traffic.
Questioning working of police, the protestors said, "How is it possible that three persons were charged in a case of assault but after investigating only one was found guilty and his name was put in challan and rest two were allowed to walk scot free. They alleged that the Investigating Officer (I/O) Javed Mirza had demanded bribe from the only accused but he could not fulfill his demand thereby he kept his name in challan. Amid sloganeering against police, the locals blocked the road to register their resentment against police.
Later SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nayeem reached the spot and assured the people that a thorough inquiry will be held in this case.
Sources told 'Early Times' that Mendhar police had charged three people namely Tiku Khan r/o Sakimaidan, Aqueel Khan r/o Jalal Chowk Galote and Touseef Khan for their alleged involvement in a case of assaulting and injuring three people on December 12, 2015. Accordingly an FIR No 150/PS Mendar was registered against the accused and further investigations were taken up," sources added.
They further said that after investigation when challan produced in court, the name of two accused Tiku Khan, Touseef Khan were dropped from the challan except one Aqueel Khan.
Meanwhile Aqueel Khan had alleged that police took bribe from the two to extricate them from case and implicated him alone. He further had alleged that the Investigating Officer Javed Mirza had also demanded bribe from him but he could not fulfill his wish thereby he kept his name in challan.
