Non-performing officers under scanner | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Feb 17: Governor's administration is reportedly in the process of identifying the officials whose performance is below par and have turned into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and are proving to be stumbling blocks in the governance process. Sources told Early Times that Head of Departments (HoDs) have been asked to identify the officials whose performance has not been upto to the mark. These officials are likely to be removed to provide a chance to younger and upcoming officers to come forward and take the responsibility. They said a list is being prepared and officials who are enjoying the plum postings due to their political influence may soon be asked to cool their heels. "Since the day Governor has taken over the reins of the state official machinery has been activated. The Governor has given a free hand to the HODs to do what they want but has sought assurance from them that he wants the best possible results," sources added. They said, "It's a after a long time that HODs are working without any political pressure and are using their powers to the fullest. A few officials who were enjoying the backing of their political bosses have been caught between the devil and the deep sea. They are trying their level best to ensure that they maintain a low profile and remain unnoticed till the democratic government is put at place." Sources said that Governor showing keen interest in developmental works and focusing on deliverance has left the official with no other option other than to perform. "The Governor has made it clear that non-performers would have to face the music and nobody can save them," they added. Besides non-performers, Governor's administration has asked the state agencies to keep a watch over the corrupt officials. "The Governor Vohra has asked the HODs to keep a vigil over their subordinates and if anyone is found involved in the corruption he should be sacked immediately," sources added. They said the Governor's instructions have cast spell over the entire administration and the officials are on toes. "Despite Durbar not being in Srinagar offices in the summer capital are functioning normally as the officials who had taken winter break have joined back to save their skin," sources added. They said a few officials have approached their political bosses and are asking them to protect them so that their chairs are saved. The Governor, according to the sources, has asked his advisors to encourage the young officers and give them responsibilities so that old horses, who consider themselves indispensable, are shown their right place. |
