Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 17: Scores of vendors protesting against the enforcement wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) pelted stone when it (JMC team) started demolition drive in Gole Market area in Gandhi Nagar today. According to reports, the enforcement wing of JMC started demolition drive during evening hours to clear the encroachment in Gole Market. "During the drive, four kiosks were destroyed by the JCB machines employed by the JMC team, reports added. Infuriated over the drive, scores of the vendors assembled and resorted to pelt stone on the JMC team amid sloganeering against the enforcement team. Meanwhile, a senior police officer giving information said that the JMC team rang to the police after protestors pelted stone however it was after active participation of police the protest was neutralized. Meanwhile protestors asserted that they have been running their kiosks for the last forty years in the area to earn their livelihood. They further said that by demolition their kiosks, the JMC team not only have snatched their livelihood but also has put their families in financial crunch as their kiosks were only source of their income. |
