Kalyanpur residents demand immediate construction of road, drains | | | Early Times Report Marh, Feb 17: The lackadaisical attitude of agencies involved in providing basic amenities in rural areas of Jammu district, has been forcing the people to suffer. Like many other stretches in the rural areas of Jammu district, a road located near shrine of Baba Jitto in Jhiri area falling in the jurisdiction of Block Marh is in dilapidated condition and causing immense hardships to the residents as the Government has virtually not undertaken any repair work on this road since years. The Kalyanpur road located near holy shrine is in very bad condition and is dotted with potholes and bumps due to which the frequent commuters are facing tremendous inconvenience every day. Not only this, there are no drains due to which dirty water remained stranded in the lane turning it into a pond. The locals explained that the vehicles have to move at snail pace in order to avoid the water-filled potholes which variously lead to failure of students to reach their respective schools on time. The residents also complained that several people including the children are falling to diseases like malaria due to breeding of mosquitoes in the stranded water. They said due to lack of drains these potholes get filled with water making the pedestrian movement very difficult. The residents alleged that crores of rupees have been spent by the government under Centre MGNREGA Scheme in the State, but several roads and lanes in the rural areas are still in shambles and without drains leaving poor villagers to suffer. The Rural Development Department is in deep slumber as they are taking no action, they alleged. Repeated representations to the MLA Marh and concerned officials for the construction of lanes and drains remained abortive, locals said, adding neither Rural Development Department nor Public Works Department (PWD) are taking initiative. Though a team of PWD has conducted a survey yet nothing concrete was done to mitigate the sufferings of the villagers. Panch Pritam Bakshi and locals Gotam Bakshi, Ashok Kumar and others appealed the Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Marh Sukhnandan Choudhary to intervene into the issue and make possible redressal of their problem. |
