Apprehension of end to Governor's rule turns into inertia among section of bureaucrats | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21 : Even as there seems no immediate end to the ongoing Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, speculations are agog in the bureaucratic circles of State Administration over possible return of the popular Government at any time. In the wake of recent political developments between PDP and BJP, particularly after much hyped meeting of Mehbooba Mufti and Ram Madhav, the top bureaucrats in the State administration are sensing that the days of Governor rule in J&K are not more unlike their previous assumption at the time of the appointment of Advisors. The situation has virtually led to inertia among a section of bureaucrats, who were earlier feeling over-enthusiastic over Governor's rule in the State and consequent all powers in their hand. Pertinent to mention that the Governor's rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on January 8 following the death of then Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed on January 7 after a brief illness. As the alliance partner PDP and BJP did not stake claim on formation of new Government, the Governor appointed his Advisors and even sought the resignation of then Advocate General, who was appointed by the previous regime. These developments were clear indication that the Governor's rule would continue for the next few months as no other party are coalition was in clear position to form a popular Government in the State. Such an assumption had sudden rejuvenation effect on the State Administration and the top bureaucrats, who were in full enthusiasm in using their powers. However, the recent meeting between Mehbooba Mufti and Ram Madhav amidst reports that PDP does not want fresh elections and hence formation of Government is likely soon, has sent a shock wave among this section of bureaucrats, who were expecting to enjoy complete power for more time. Not only these bureaucrats but one of the two Advisors are also learnt to have publically expressed their dismay over possible end of Governor's rule very soon with a clear indication that they were no more enthusiastic to deliver. |
