Srinagar, Feb 21 : Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators who defied and took to the streets at Pampore in south Kashmir district of Pulwama today, where an encounter is going on since yesterday between militants holed up in a government building and security forces. So far, an Army Captain, two CRPF personnel and a civilian gardener were killed and 13 other CRPF personnel, including an officer, were injured. The authorities have imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in the entire area to prevent any demonstration. However, people, mostly youths, again took to the streets at Pampore and attacked security forces with stones. Police station was also attacked by ''Pro-freedom'' slogan raising demonstrators. Several people were injured, after being hit by tear smoke shell, official sources said. Yesterday, security forces had to burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators immediately after the encounter ensued when militants attacked a CRPF convoy at Sempora, Pampore. However, the militants later entered a nearby building of Entrepreneurship development Institute (EDI). Operation to flush out the holed up militants was going on when the reports last came in. |
