2nd Round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme begins across Jammu region

JAMMU, Feb 21 : 2nd round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme began today with the administration of Pulse Polio drops to children at various places across Jammu region.
As many as 64000 children below the age group of five years were covered under the Intensive Pulse Polio (IPP) Vaccination drive in Ramban district. The district administration has setup 420 pulse polio vaccination booths, and deployed over 2000 workers, 85 numbers of supervisors, 8 numbers of mobile units.
District Development Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Harun Malik in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr. Mumtaz Bhatti administered the Polio Vaccine to a baby at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital under polio immunization drive in the district.
Highlighting the importance of Oral Polio Vaccine in combating the potentially fatal disease, the Deputy Commissioner said that the drive is intended to administer polio drops to children below the age of five years in the entire district. "Oral Polio Vaccine will be administered in as many as 415 booths set up all over the district for this purpose", DDC said. The second round of IPP was started in Kathua by the District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar by administering the polio drops to a baby at District Hospital. A total of 75082 children of all the blocks of the district were covered under the Pulse Polio Immunization drive (Day 1) with achieving the target of 81 percent.
At Samba, MLA Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal formally launched the Pulse Polio Immunization drive at district hospital. Over 38313 children were administered polio drops achieving the target of 77.86 percent.
In Doda, the Pulse Polio campaign was inaugurated by CMO Dr Kulbhushan at district Hospital. 78 percent of target has been achieved on the first day of the campaign by administering polio drops to 62,992 children. A total of 592 booths have been setup by the health department with mobile units to cover the children of designated age group.
In Kishtwar, a total of 30665 children were administered polio drops during the first day of Pulse Polio Immunization drive. CMO inaugurated the campaign at district hospital. Heath department has set up 368 booths for the campaign.
About 45,000 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered polio drops in Reasi. As many as 364 booths were set up by the department.
ADC Udhampur Angrez Singh Rana administered the polio drops to a baby under Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) drive round 2 at district hospital. A total of 75476 children were administered polio drops. The department has set up 543 vaccination booths in different parts of the district to cover 87110 children of 0-5 years for vaccination in the district during the campaign.
The reports for the smooth conduct of Pulse Polio Immunization are also pouring from other parts of the Division to make the campaign a success to save the children from this fatal disease of Polio.
