SRINAGAR, Feb 21: In connection with the second phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (IPPI), more than ten lakh children below 5 years of age were administered oral polio drops across the Kashmir division on Sunday to safeguard them from the crippling disease besides eradiating the menace of polio from the Valley. The drive will last for three days in the valley with administration setting-up hundreds of booths for successful and smooth conduct of the campaign. In summer capital Srinagar, District Development Commissioner Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone inaugurated the IPPI programme by administering polio drops to children at JLNM hospital, Rainawari. Nearly 1, 77000 children are being covered in the district for which 2500 employees and volunteers were deputed in 645 pulse-polio booths. The District Development Commissioner Srinagar directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to constitute mobile teams for conducting house -to-house survey to ensure that hundred percent target is achieved in next two-days of the drive. The Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Sameer Mattoo, Deputy Director Family Welfare and other officers from health department were present on the occasion. At Budgam, DDC, Mir Altaf Ahmad inaugurated the second phase of pulse polio immunization with CMO at the district hospital. About 1, 01533 children to be covered under the programme in the district for which 2253 manpower comprising health workers, ASHA workers, ICDS workers and voluntaries deployed at 563 booths including seven transit teams. At Ganderbal, District Development Commissioner, Showkat Aijaz Bhat gave oral polio vaccine to a baby in the District hospital. Nearly 40698 children are being covered under this programme and 227 vaccination booths have been set up for the purpose besides 957 employees have been deployed for the immunization programme. At Kulgam, Additional Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnania launched the anti-polio campaign by administering vaccine to a newly born at the district hospital here. About 89118 children of below 5 years of age are the target of the drive for which about 505 polio booths have been setup. |
