Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 22 : Allowing a PIL seeking to implead chief electoral officer (CEO), J&K, as a party respondent due to the casual government approach to hold elections to municipal bodies across the state, a high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today issued notice to the CEO. In the PIL, a direction was sought to respondents to hold elections of various municipal committees, municipal councils and municipal corporations as per the mandate of J&K Municipal Act 2006 as elections, which were due in 2010, could not take place due to casual and callous approach of the state government. After hearing the two sides, the bench allowed the petitioner's application, seeking to implead CEO as party respondent, and issued notice to him which was accepted by the senior AAG. |
