Geelani's Hurriyat crosses red line, openly supports militancy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 22: Things in Kashmir have further deteriorated. Narendra Modi's goodwill gestures, including his sudden visit to Lahore on December 25 and his Paris meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mian Nawaz Sharif, have in no way helped change even a bit the situation in Kashmir, which continues to witness terror-related incidents at regular intervals. In fact, the situation in the Kashmir Valley has gone from bad to worse. Pakistan has taken all these goodwill gestures of the Indian Prime Minister to mean signs of weakness. As a result, both the political and military establishments in Pakistan, plus their dreaded Inter-Service Intelligence and State actors like Lashkar-e-Toiba founder and Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, have given a dangerous fillip to anti-India activities with a view to annexing Kashmir. It is not just Pakistan and its dreaded operatives which have intensified their subversive activities in the Valley and have been targeting Army and CRPF convoys to remain in the news and attract the world attention. The Kashmiri separatists too have increased their anti-India activities manifold. They are taking the civil administration and law and order authorities for a ride. They have got emboldened to the extent that they are crossing the red lines and vouching for and supporting armed struggle in Kashmir. They are not doing so in a hush, hush manner; they are doing so openly, publicly and in writing. On Sunday, the Tehrik-e-Hurriyat of pro-Pakistan Syed Ali Shah Geelani without mincing words reiterated its support to the armed struggle by saying that "Kashmiri nation is indebted to the sacrifices of its bravehearts" (read terrorists and enemies of humanity and Indian State). It was none other than the so-called advisory council of Tehrik-e-Hurriyat which issued a written statement that reiterated support to the ongoing armed struggle in the Valley. "Until and unless the Kashmiri people are asked their wishes and those wishes are respected, the struggle will continue at every level and at any cost and no power in the world can motivate Kashmiris to compromise on the slavery of India," members of the advisory council, including Shabir Shah, said. In fact, they incited Kashmiri Muslims to take to violent methods to liberate Kashmir from the Indian State. It was hoped that the Governor's administration will take cognizance of the highly outrageous and provocative statement, but it was not to be. The Governor's administration, it appears, overlooked this act of sedition. Had it taken note of what the Geelani's outfit said in a written statement, its law and order machinery would have acted by now and booked them under the charge of sedition. That it didn't do that only established that its attitude towards the secessionists in Kashmir was no different from that of the so-called popular Governments in the State. It's time for the Governor's administration, which, in fact, is the Central administration as the State is under the Governor's rule, to rise to the occasion and use the opportunity to free Kashmir of the menace of terrorism. It's best time to give a freehand to the Army and paramilitary forces to neutralize all the terrorists and secessionists so that peace is restored in the Valley. The policy of reaction has failed and now is the time to adopt pro-active policy so that others react. The Pampore terror attack on the CRPF convoy and the manner in which three, four terrorists engaged with the Army commandoes and CRPF personnel have only suggested that the only way to eliminate the menace of terrorism and secessionism is to give a freehand to the Army and paramilitary forces. The sooner it is done the better. Any failure on the part of the administration and custodians of the Indian State would only further embolden the outfits like Tehrik-e-Hurriyat and this is not acceptable to the bleeding Indian nation. We cannot lose more soldiers; we cannot lose brave sons of India like Captain Tushar Mahajan, Captain Pawan Kumar Singh, Head Constable RK Rana, Head Constable Bhola Singh and Lance Naik Om Prakash.
