Encroachers clash with Police, enforcement team in Bari Brahmana
One killed, four policemen injured

Jammu, Feb 22: One person was killed and four police personnel got injuries when a group of encroachers clashed with police who had gone to vacate the encroached government land at Sarore, in Samba district today.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Yaqub s/o Rahmat Ali of Rakh Footian while the injured have been identified as identified as Sgt Mohd Haneef (Belt No 211/S) posted p/s Bari Brahmna, Sgt Mohd Rafiq (Belt No 269/S) P/S Bari Brahmna, Devanand R/O Indore a/p police station Bari Brahmna. A police officer informed that the body of the deceased is kept in the mortuary of the Ramgarh hospital while the injured have been admitted in Govt Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
Police sources said that the situation turned murky when some miscreants snatched the weapons of the police personnel who went in a village of Sarore along with the Himachal Police this morning to arrest an accused wanted in a criminal case in Himachal Pradesh. The supporters of the accused allegedly attacked the joint police party and also snatched weapon from them.
Meanwhile Jammu Development Authority (JDA) who had served eviction notice to encroachers to vacate its land falling at the same village. "JDA enforcement wing escorted with Police also went to the area which worsened the already charged situation resulting into clashes between the two sides. "Encroachers opened fire from allegedly stanched weapons which was retaliated by the police team. In the ensuing firing one person received bullet injuries and later succumbed. Div. Com Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal said that Himachal Police alongwith local police went to the area to arrest a criminal but the local resisted the arrest and attacked the police team this morning. Meantime JDA also launched an anti encroachment drive which also was resisted by the encroachers who staged protest and also beat a group of policemen. Dr Kotwal said that as per reports from district administration, one person had been killed while four police cops sustained injuries in the clashes.
