Guru Ravi Dass birth anniversary celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Feb 22 : The 639th birth anniversary of Guru Ravi Dass was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the Jammu region today with devotees of Guru organizing religious congregations in Guru Ravi Dass temples.
An impressive function attended by 25000 to 30000 people from different parts of the State was organised by All J&K Guru Ravidas Sabha at its headquarters at Gurudwara Guru Ravidas ji Maharaj at Krishna Nagar, Jammu. Amidst shabads of Sant shiromani Guru Ravidas ji Maharaj flowing from the melodious voice of one the renowned sufi singer Dev Dildar from Jalandhar, various speakers delved on the lives and message of Shri Guru Ravidas ji Maharaj, Guru Kabir ji Maharaj, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Naba Dassji and Baba Sahib Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
President, All J&K Guru Ravidas Sabha Piran Ditta exhorted the sangat to follow the path shown by one the greatest saints of India Shri Guru Ravi Das ji Maharaj and Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar and underlined the need for education for our younger generation. He also announced that the Sabha shall support poor student belonging to any of the community of Scheduled Castes, if the family is unable to support his education because of poverty.
Guest of Honour on the occasion, B. R. Kundal, IAS (Retd.) exhorted the people to follow the path shown by our great saints and stressed the need for inculcating discipline in our coming generation. He focussed on the contribution made Baba Sahib Ambedkar who wrote Constitution of our Country and ushered an era of equal opportunity. He stressed the need for unity among the community members in implementing the vision of Satguru Ravidas ji Maharaj and Baba Sahib Ambedkar.
Various other speakers/ members from social and political field, public servants and businessmen also participated in the programme and paid their tributes to Satguru Maharaj. Prominent among them were Sat Sharma, President, Bhartiya Janta Party, Tarsem Khullar, President Bahujan Samaj Party, Ramesh Angral, SSP, Mohan Lal, SSP, Ramesh Uttama, KAS, PL Bhushan, C.E., Naresh Langeh, C.E., Arvind Kumar Bavoria, Rakesh Wazir, President Katra Hotel Association, Sat Paul Bavoria KAS, Bodh Raj, vice President, All J&K Bhagat Mahasabha, Biru Ram, President, All J&K Barwala Sadar Sabha, Banarsi Lal Digra, Pritam Chand, Saryara Sabha, Darshan Angral, Madan Langeh, Deepak Bangotra, Joginder Digra, Mulkh Raj, Sham Sunder Basson, Dev Raj Angral, Badri Nath, President Gumat Sabha, Mohinder Bhagat and others. Meanwhile Teachings of Guru Ravi Dass Ji were remembered at Tawi Aarti Ghat by the members of Tawi Andolan and Namami Gange Project.
Describing him as saint and philosopher of the time, senior member of Andolan Parshotam Chander Sharma, Advocate said that his teachings as relevant today as these were relevant during his life time.
Sharma while thrashing light on the life of Guru Ravi Dass ji, said that he by his high qualities, character, devotion and exemplary humbleness proved that no human being is superior than others, that is why people all over the world hold him in high spirits. Another Speaker, Raj Kumar Gupta also spoke on the messages of Guru Ravi Dass ji. The portrait of Guru was garlanded by the Convenor of Tawi Andolan, Chander Mohan Sharma, advocate who paid tributes and said that Andolan shall keep drawing moral support from such pious personalities. Sat Pal Raina, Suraj Sharma of "Jammu Folk" Musical Group and Anita Sharma sung devotional songs in the respect of Guru Ravi Dass ji.
