KATRA, Feb 26: The first and only sports stadium at Holy town of Katra is eagerly awaited by the residents as its completion is being delayed due to snail's pace of work. Stadium is being constructed by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore and was to be completed within a period of two years. The stadium shall have seating capacity of 4,000 and provisions for cricket, football and hockey grounds, volleyball court, squash court, changing rooms. A player from Katra said, "there has been no effort in the past to give boost to sporting activities in Katra and to channelise the energies of youth of this town, he added. Locals as well as the Students who appreciated the initiative taken up by the Governor for setting in motion the process of the construction of the stadium are still waiting eagerly for the completion of the same and look dissatisfied with the delay as they expected the stadium to be thrown open till date. "The stadium would prove a boon to budding sportspersons of the district and the surrounding areas" another sportsman said. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Director Sports SMVDSB, Katra said that construction of the project is at final stages of completion. "We are waiting for the exams of Students to be over so as that their studies are not harmed", he commented unconvincingly. |
