'Biased' AI report talks about intolerance in India, ignores Pak | | | ET Report JAMMU, Feb 26: A recent report submitted by the human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, highlighting the alleged intolerance in India, has evoked sharp criticism with experts terming it as direct interference in the internal affairs of India. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's surprising how the AI has dubbed minor incidents as intolerance, while it has remained silent over the incidents of terrorism and religious intolerance in Pakistan. There is no mention of the ever increasing emergence of terrorist group ISIS which is assuming the shape of a monster and is killing civilians all over the world." He said, "AI remaining silent over the terrorist attack at Pathankote airbase and Pakistan failing to take any action against the terrorists who are unleashing violence against India from their soil show how biased the AI report is." Pertinently, Amnesty International (AI) in its recent report strongly condemned the growing intolerance in India saying, "India has failed to prevent many incidents of religious violence and sometimes contributed to tension through polarizing speeches." A politician said, "It's strange that AI has mentioned about the speeches in India but there is no mention about the hate speeches which are delivered against that India in Pakistan. The AI report has ignored Pakistan has become a breeding ground for terrorists, who besides targeting India are not sparing other countries also." A Kashmir watcher said, " AI in its past reports has been critical about the role of the security force personnel operating in Jammu and Kashmir but it has failed to pin point the human rights violations which are committed by the Pakistan sponsored terrorists and their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC)." He said, "The AI should leave India aside and focus on countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and other Islamic countries where bomb blasts have become a routine and innocents are being killed for none of their fault." Another expert was of the opinion that many countries including the western world are unable to digest the progress and prosperity of India. "At times these international watch dogs come up with tailor made reports just to appease their bosses, who want to undermine the growth and prosperity of the other countries," he said. He said, "India is a huge country with diverse culture and religions. Differences of opinion among the people cannot be termed as intolerance. The AI should stop poking its nose in India and its affairs. It should rather concentrate on the countries where human rights are violated day in and out and these countries pose a threat to the world peace." |
