Erroneous Aadhaar cards irk people in Kashmir | | | Majid Nabi
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 26: The mistakes in hastily prepared 'Aadhaar Cards' by the private agencies has changed the identity, religion and domicle of an individual in Kashmir valley with majority of people accusing the authorities for assigning highly incompetent people for such a sensitive job. People from various areas in Kashmir including summer capital Srinagar have complained of grave errors in compulsory Aadhaar Cards with regards to their identification recorded at the time of screening. They said that the people who recorded their particulars on computer sets have wrongly printed their names parentage and address on Aadhaar Cards they received after more than a year. "This is the height of stupidity, it took a single person around half an hour to record his credentials however my identification including that of my name address and parentage has been wrongly printed on card," Zehrun Nissa a government teacher from Batpora village of central Budgam told 'Early Times'. Interestingly, the officials of a private firm assigned for recording biometrics of people have printed names, surnames and even date of birth erroneously on cards issued recently to people. "My name has been written as Lal Bhawani instead of Hilal Bhat, likewise the address is written as Balpora Bogam instead of Batapora Bogam. Believe me there were minor mistakes in election cards but the mistakes committed in mandatory Aadhaar Cards has put a question mark on the effectiveness of authorities," Bilal Ahmad Bhat an Aadhaar Card holder from Bogam Budgam said. Gulam Mohammad, Sarpanch of Batpora village while talking to 'Early Times' said that all 300 Aadhaar Cards of his area were full of flaws which he returned to the authorities for rectification. "If the government has made Aadhaar Card mandatory than there is no question of errors and omissions with regards to the credentials of people. Government has done a grave blunder by assigning incompetent and illiterate people for the job," said Sarpanch. He said that the Governor must immediately take note of the mistakes committed by the officials in Adhaar Cards and direct their rectification at earliest. "Since the government has made these cards mandatory and even directed the authorities to issue cards till March 31st but the mistakes committed by the officials will take another six months to get rectified," Mohammad Saleem Mir said. People form Srinagar complained that ninety percent of population is yet to receive Aadhaar Cards with the authorities seeming least bothered to meet the deadline set by the Governor of the state himself. "We went for through the physical verification procedure a year ago; however we are yet to receive the cards. Government must immediately take strong note of the issue so that people who have already underwent necessary procedure get cards well on time," Nisar Ahmad Darzi from Shivura Lal Bazar said. |
