Baramullah, Feb 26 : Police today claimed to have arrested the 'kingpin' of the fake marriage racket along with his accomplice and recovered cash and gold from him whom he had obtained from innocent people through deceit and fraud. Police said, "The accused has been identified as Amin Wani son of Ghulam Nabi a resident of Kharnipora Tangmarg." "Pertinently police had arrested six persons including four women of the same gang earlier in recent past, police added. A police official said, "Police team from Pattan Police Station apprehended the kingpin from Tangmarg area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. "His accomplice Raool Lone of Khargam Tangamarg was also apprehended and both were produced before Sub-Judge Pattan who remanded them to police for three days," the police official said. Here it needs to mention that the imposters were running a fake marriage racket in North Kashmir and were used to approach prospect grooms as middle men/woman and fix their wedding with a woman, also a part of the gang. After the marriage, the impostor wife and her makeshift family used to run away with gold ornaments and cash, which they received from groom's family as part of the marriage ceremony. "Besides the kingpin and his accomplice police have so far arrested six persons including four women who hail from Trikolbal Pattan, police said, and further identified the other accused as Latif Pandit, his wife Amina Begum, Latif Wagay, his wife Atiqa Begum, Shamima Begum and Atiqa Bano. |
