Two minors critically injured in mine explosion | | | Poonch/ Rajouri, Feb 26 : Two minors today sustained critical injuries when an explosive device exploded while they were playing near their house in Azmabad village in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district of state. The injured have been identified as Imran Ahmed (14) son of Mohd Akram and Tahir Rashid (7) son of Mohd Rashid both resident of Azmabad of Poonch. According to sources, the children were playing near a Border Security Force (BSF) post reportedly left abandoned by the force in 1996-97. "The BSF unit operating in the area in 1965 had planted mines for the security of the post and while leaving the area might have forgotten to defuse the mine or it might have washed away in the area from somewhere else during rains in recent past, "they said, adding, "the army might also have planted the mine for the security of the post which might have come out of the ground in the passage of time." Sources said while playing in the area one of the boy inadvertently stepped over an abandoned mine triggering its explosion in which both the boys were injured critically. According to information available at Poonch reportedly Imran has lost his one hand in the blast while Tahir has received critical injuries in the legs. Immediately after the explosion villagers rushed to the spot and accordingly informed the local police, sources said. "A police party headed by Massof Mirza, SHO rushed to the explosion site and rescued the injured to district hospital at Poonch, he added. "Two boys were critically injured in possible explosive device in the evening today. Both were shifted to hospital at Poonch and are under treatment" said JS Johar, SSP, Poonch. Meanwhile concerned Police have started investigation into the incident. |
