Anantnag, Mar 11: An official of state Forest Corporation Kashmir, in this southern district has withheld the salary of an employee just to appease his 'friend'.
Officer's alleged illegal act exposes the misuse of administrative powers by bureaucrats in the state-currently under Governor’s rule.
Victim employee identifying himself as Manzoor Ahmad told Early Times that DM Ext. Division Anantnag Manzoor Ahmad Bhat has withheld his salary and has pushed his entire family into starvation.
Recalling his ordeal, Manzoor (Employee) said, "I owe some money to a city resident, we have some family business with him but despite my assurances that I will liquidate whole amount once my salary is released, DFO hasn't yet released my salary."
He alleged that officer was acting on behest of a Rural Development Employee who introduces himself as a journalist.
"DFO held my salary just to appease his friend who claims to be a journalist but now I have verified he is working in Rural Development Department and to skip regular duties he poses a journalist," Manzoor added.
Asking higher-ups of the department to intervene, Maznoor said that he is father of five daughters and without salary he can't move a bit.
"I am posted at Seerhamdan and I am working honestly anyone in the department can tell you about me but this time I need help. If DFO will release my salary, I promise, I will liquidate the amount to that person," Manzoor who doesn't know that his senior has withheld his salary against the rules, told early Times.
DM Ext. Division Anantnag Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, on being contacted admitted to have withheld the salary of employee.
"Once he will liquidate the amount I will release his salary," Bhat said.
Chief General Manager South, Bijbehara of State Forest Department, Munir Ahmad Shair assured action.
"I will look into the matter and get the salary of employee released tomorrow," he assured on being contacted.
Meanwhile, colleagues of victim employee demanded stern action against the officer for misusing his administrative powers.
