PDP workers want Mehbooba to form Govt | | | Peerazada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 11: The leaders and the workers within the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) are reportedly mounting pressure on Mehbooba to align with the BJP and form the government in the state at an earliest. The meetings being held at the Fairview residence of the PDP chief at large swirl around the need for the government formation at an earliest. The leadership within the party while pitching for the end of the stalemate are in unison saying that the PDP would witness a tough time ahead if it fails to seize the moment and end the deadlock that has led to the imposition of governor's rule in the state. There are reports that the ground level workers too want the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to join hands with the BJP and form the coalition government. It is being widely discussed within the party fold that the present stalemate in the state is only helping the National Conference to gain its foothold in those areas which otherwise were the PDP bastions. Workers have also expressed concern that the NC has started functioning in the South Kashmir region that could affect the strength of the party there. "We are connected to the ground. We know that there are apprehensions being raised about how the party has undermined those who have voted for it during the 2014 polls. If their aspirations aren't met, it wouldn't take them long to forge an alliance with the rival camp," said a PDP worker, who claims to have played a vital role in establishing the party in south Kashmir. There are also voices being heard within the party that if such a situation continues, PDP would have nothing to offer to its voters in the next elections. "There are the poll promises that are yet to be fulfilled. There are activists who want to get their respective works done. I mean how could a worker again remain in with if the government is nowhere in place. The workers have been waiting for the PDP to form the government since 2009. Now when the government was formed, this stalemate is proving worrisome for all," a party functionary said. As the speculations over the government formation are ripe at present, the suspense too hasn't died down, resulting in a situation which is no less than a chaos for the ground level workers of the party. A group of party workers said that they have asked the PDP chief to form the government so that the peoples' woes are addressed on time. "Mehbooba Mufti is the only leader in the entire state who is connected with her workers. She prioritises what they say and opine. It is for sure that she would take in to view what her ground level workers have been saying and the reasons behind the same," said another group of party activists. Meanwhile, amid the deadlock, there are meetings within the PDP going on in which the current situation is being discussed at threadbare. There are high chances of the deadlock to end within a week or so. |
