Early Times Report

Udhampur, Mar 11: A strong resentment is brewing up among people across the Udhampur district of Jammu region over the alleged discrepancies in national Food Safety Act (NFSA) and it further has exaggerated when people came to know that children below 0-5 years would not be registered under new Act.
Sources in Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department, and the locals told Early Times that children below 0- 5 years are not entitled to get ration after the implementation of NSFA.
"Under NFSA children above 0-5 years of age will only be considered for ration while as kids below this age will be only given lactating benefits under the Act," sources said.
Meanwhile, a senior CAPD official said the government would invite more criticism with this move. "People who have already taken to streets to protest against decrease of ration to just 5 kg per person under NFSA would oppose it."
Director CAPD told some media persons that there has been some guidelines from the centre for people living at urban and rural areas and as per as the census of 2011 the members of the families will be carried on and the names of children who remained unregistered shall be incorporated later on.
However, he didn't respond to query about whether children below 5 years shall get ration as per other members in the families or not.
The consumers belonging to lower middle class families have expressed apprehensions that a major chunk of population will be left without requisite food if children below five years are not given ration after the NFSA implementation? Barat Choudary a consumer said, "It will further compound the miseries of middle class families and people will oppose it. ADC Udhampur, Angrez Singh Rana said that this is true that the children below 5 years shall not be entitled to get ration specified for adults because the centre is releasing the ration as per the census of 2011. He however added that they are looking forward to resolve this matter very soon once we will finish with the upgrading the ration cards and hoped that the issue will be resolved soon
