Jammu, Mar 11 : A farmer awareness programme on 'Cultivation of ginger, various plant protection measures and its value addition' was conducted at Village Sirla of Reasi by the SKAUST, Jammu. According to press release, the programe organized under a SARTHI (Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Transformation Holistic Initiative) Programme -Shivalik Range and funded by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. The objective was to encourage farmers for cultivating ginger, a spice crop, on scientific scale and adopt it as a cash crop. Principal Investigator of the project, Dr Susheel Sharma explained that the quality of the spice produced in the hilly areas continues to be one of the best because of comparatively low temperature in winters and moderate temperature in summers. Gardening tools, plant protection fungicides, protrays and scientific literature were also distributed among the farmers under the SARTHI project. |
