MBBS in Bangladesh under SAARC quota: Recommended candidates dropped | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Mar12: Admissions in Bangladesh under SAARC quota for MBBS course to select students from India's Jammu & Kashmir has come into question as the list includes the names of majority of students who were not recommended. As per the details available with "Early Times" the Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi on December 18 sent a recommendation letter of 11 students under endorsement No.Inf.Edu/5/2015-2016/MBBS/SAARC/570 Dated: 18th December 2015 from Kashmir to be selected for MBBS under SAARC Quota and due to bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. In the letter sent to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh, Syed Mehreen, Muntha Wani, Mir Maliha Yousuf, Nuha Malik, Haidar Farooq Banday, Zoya Qureshi, Nafia Yousuf , Rabia Khan, Nasir Mehran lone, Kaneez Fatima & Hazique Parvez were recommended for MBBS admission in accordance with GPA of 10th and 12th standards and SAARC criteria. According to documents available with "Early Times, the students were recommended by the People's Democratic Party President and MP Mehbooba Mufti , MP Tariq Hameed , MLA Basharat Bukhari , Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi BJP Minister and the recommended list was sent to the High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Delhi, but unfortunately final list which was issued by Director General Health Sciences, government of Bangladesh does not include all the names of students who were recommended in the letter sent on December 18 and instead enlist the students recommended by Bangladeshi Ministers which is in violation of the set procedure. While talking to "Early Times", social activist from Jammu and Kashmir Idrees Ul Haq Said that I am myself surprised to see all this & don't know how some students have managed to enter the final list when they were never recommended by any of the minister of the GoI nor they have applied for the same before the Bangladesh government added that to his surprise even some of the candidates have managed to get recommendations from Bangladeshi Minister without being visiting to the said country. "I am equally disturbed how can a Bangladesh based Central minister recommend a student of Kashmir for SAARC Quota in MBBS for Bangladesh as it snatches the career Opportunity of Bangladesh students as well as deserving students of India who else are deemed to get selected on merit" said Haq added that on Feb 25, 2016 he e-mailed PMOs of both the countries and all the concerned departments of Bangladesh & India including Ministry of health and family welfare, DG Health, home minister, and intelligence offices etc of both countries regarding this, but no action was taken since then further added that it seems to be scandal where money is involved and merit is just thrown into dust bin. |
