RDD turns blind eye towards Mendhar town | | | MS Nazki Early Times Report
Poonch, Mar 12: Despite having annual maintenance contract to take care of the necessities of the Mendhar town, Rural Development Department has miserably failed to keep the town clean. The Rural Development department has been assigned job to maintain the town by the district administration but practically nothing is being done. "The street lights have been out of order for last many years as a result the main roads reel under darkness. As far as cleanliness of the town is concerned it looks ugly as main Bazar of the town has turned into garbage dumping site," locals said. They said, "Main drains of the Bazar are choked and sewage flows through the streets making it difficult for people to walk. Even vehicles plying on these roads splash the water all over making it difficult for the pedestrians to walk through the bazaar." Sources said that there are 15 sweepers on rolls and they get their salaries without discharging their duties. The main Bazar of the Mendhar town comprises of more than 500 shops and an amount of Rs. 100/- per shop is being charged every month for the maintenance but on ground nothing is visible. Further Rs. 20 and Rs 30 are charged from every vehicle as adda fee still no measure have been taken to keep the town clean. "The amount generated to keep the town clean has been embezzled as there is an unholy nexus between contractors, VLWs, BDO and the higher ups of the Rural Development Department," locals alleged. Mendhar Youth Club Chairman Nadeem Khan expressed concern over the pathetic plight of the Mendhar town. He appealed to local youth to come forward to make Mendhar clean and beautiful. |
