Banihal, Mar 12: Continued rains lashing the region from yesterday have affected traffic on main national highway NH-1A and the majority of link roads of the mountainous Ramban district, however the men and machinery from concerned agencies have cleared the debris from clogged national highway and made it opened to clear the stranded vehicles.
Officials sources said that the traffic on Jammu Srinagar highway restored on Saturday morning after it was suspended due to land slide triggered near Sher Bibi, Ramsoo, Panthal and Gangroo area along National Highway.
Meanwhile sources added that one house reportedly has been damaged due to land slide in Neel area of Ramban district. They said that the house belonging to one Ghulam Qadir Gojjer of Neel Banihal came under the land slide after the area witnessed heavy rains.
“The locals and neighbours immediately rushed rescued the family of Qadir Gojjer however the house hold material got severely damaged.
DY SP traffic Banihal Nihar Ranjan told Early Times that last night landslides were triggered at various places along highway it affected the normal traffic. Meanwhile  the men and machinery from concerned agencies impressed into service cleared debris of landslides and then the traffic authorities allowed the traffic to ply towards valley till midnight.
Traffic official said, “After mid night some more landslides were reported on highway thus clogging the ever busy highway.” However the human resources from road maintenance agency again cleared the debris and allowed over 1000 light and heavy vehicles to cross the Jawahar Tunnel towards their destinations.
He also said that according to forecast by MET, more rainfall is likely to be witnessed in the region and traffic police cannot take risk for plying of traffic during night because slides may occur between Banihal and Ramban sector of Highway.
