Udhampur, Mar 12: In a great contrast to urban life in two capital towns of state, the residents of Larh and Nol villages of Panchayat Jofar of Ramnagar in Udhampur district have alleged that they are living without electricity even after 68 years of Independence.
They further lamented that there has been no progress on the ground despite allocation of funds by the Centre a few years ago. "Though the nation has progressed leaps and bounds in 68 years of independence, but some villages of Ramnagar of Udhampur district still are without electricity," said Onkar Bhagat a resident of Jofar Panchayat .
The residents rued that Centre claims to have provided adequate funds to all States in accordance with Deen Dayal Upadhayay Gram Jyoti Yojna, but the State government yet has failed to provide electricity to these villages.
Panch Deewan Chand said, "Six years ago some electric polls and transformers were installed in village under Centrally-sponsored schemes, but afterwards there has been no progress.".
He added that despite several pleas to political representatives and civil administration, nothing has been done to redress the issue and to provide electricity to village.
The residents of these villages said that they have been facing multiple problems in absence of electricity.
"Among much acclaimed development in the 21st century, the students of these villages are forced to use candles to prepare for their exams," satirically said Sunil a student who demanded that government should listen to our genuine demand and take measure to provide us electricity at an earliest,"
Talking to media, XEn, Power Development Department (PDD) Chamail Singh assured that power to the village will be provided shortly under new schemes launched and work is on in this regard.
Local MLA R S Pathania when contacted briefly said that only sixty to seventy houses of Jofer panchayat are without electricity and efforts are on to provide them electricity in near future.
