| Let Mehbooba forget about issues and concentrate on governance | | | Delay in fixing date for oath taking ceremony does not mean that Mehbooba is not willing to lead the coalition Government.The dice has been cast not by only PDP but also by the BJP leadership. In fact the decision to forge again the alliance between the PDP and the BJP was taken not by small fries but by Prime Minister,Narendra Modi and Mehbooba Mufti. Hence the two are committed to form the coalition Government. Yes, both Mehbooba and the state unit of the BJP are supposed to sort out all issues before the final whistle is blown for oath ceremony.Well Dr Nirmal Singh is not correct to the dot when he said that all issues will be resolved soon after oath taking ceremony.What is important is not the time for formation of the Government, the most important issue is when Mehbooba starts leading the Government she shall have to initiate measures for improving the lot of people. That is a must if the PDP wants to regain the ground it had lost during last one year and if it is willing to help the BJP to strengthen its vote bank in the region of Jammu.
Both the BJP and the PDP should not remain satisfied with one development of forming the Government.There is no need for an euphoria over the possible end of Governor's rule.Setting up a civilian government is not enough.The PDP and the BJP have to lay focus on governance.The state has been under Governor's rule for the last 80 days and apart from people the leadership of the PDP and the BJP have experienced how effective governance thereby allowing people to resolve various problems.As far as people in Kashmir are concerned they should have welcomed a major gift from Governor,N.N.Vohra in the shape of Army's decision to vacate Government land at four places,Tatto grounds,in Srinagar,land in Anantnag,land adjacent to Jammu university in Jammu and in Kargil.It was an issue with all Kashmiri centric leaders,including Dr Farooq Abdullah,Omar Abdullah,Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti,even before she was installed as Chief Minister.
Hence the timing of the taking oath is not as important as the over all performance of the new Government is.Well Mehbooba should not resort to delaying tactics which could send wrong signals to the political parties and people. People may start believing that there are serious issues that are yet to be resolved. Well Mehbooba should convey her thanks to the Modi led Government after the Union Finance Minister,Arun Jaitley, assured the new Government that the centre was ready to make sizeable addition to the economic package already announced by Modi for Jammu and Kashmir.
This should be considered as a major boon from the Government of India which needs to be utilized properly so that poor people remain beneficiary of the Central Government's economic package.There are various issues awaiting attention from Mehbooba.
It is she who can ensure proper governance to the extent of resolving various problems of people.First of all the new Government has to initiate measures,apart from seeking return of two NHPC run power projects to the state sector, for tackling energy crisis.Let the new Government explore the possibility of building mini and macro power units in the state.
Besides unemployment the new Government has to deal with the problem of poor central Government and private sector investment in the sector of industry in Jammu and Kashmir.One does expect that Mehbooba cooperates with the Army,the police and the paramilitary forces engaged in tackling militancy and she should not shed tears even if there ar e minor cases of human rights violations. Hitherto, no political leader has shed any tear over the blatant human rights violations having been committed by militants.Mehbooba's job is to improve the security scenario so that private sector is willing to invest in the industrial sector and tourist flow gets a new boost. |
