PDP rules out giving extra cabinet berths to BJP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 29: The PDP has made it clear to the BJP it will not accept its demand of more representation in the cabinet and also its say in the key portfolios. Sources said the party has communicated it to the central leadership of the party. The PDP has told the BJP leadership that it is not conceding to the demand of the more representation in the cabinet than it had in the government headed by the Mufti Sayeed. "There is no question of succumbing to the pressure tactics of the BJP. The party, especially its local leadership, must realise it was the BJP top leadership which was interested in re-stitching an alliance with us. And this make it clear," said the senior PDP leader. The BJP especially its local leadership is putting forward the case that it may have to face the criticism if it gets the same number of cabinet berth which it had last time as people will call it a sell out for the sake of the power. The sources said that though a section of top leadership of the party was partially convinced with this logic but senior cabinet minister Arun Jaitley by stating that in J&K we have to co-opt regional mainstream parties and also can go 'extra-mile, suggested that BJP is more interested in having being in the government in the J&K than anything else. "It's not for anything that BJP's central leadership made such statements. They realises the fact that being even in government for the first time in the J&K is itself not small thing and the party can use it in the international stage to enhance the image of the Modi, which does come under attack from certain quarters. We are clear on this account and local BJP leadership should realise ground reality and wider political implications than having parochial thinking," said the PDP leader. |
