Jammu, Mar 29: In the era of digitalization, the primer institutions of higher learning have made available WiFi and other internet services, but the students and scholars of Jammu University have been deprived of access to internet services in Dhanvantri Library. A scholar wishing anonymity told Early Times that since January this year, the internet services in Central Library of varsity have been lying defunct and administration has failed to restore the same. "We have repeatedly informed several officials of varsity to restore the services without any further delay but owing to negligence of Chief Librarian, Dean Student Welfare, the internet services are not restored", the scholar said. He said that owing to inaccessibility of internet services, scholars have been facing hurdles to complete their research works besides other requirements for educational purposes. "As a scholar, everyday our supervisors allot various assignments regarding research- term papers, abstract of the research, literature review but due to not accessibility of internet in Central library, we are unable to complete the assignment in time, resulting increasing burden on our shoulder", a scholar pursuing M.Phil from JU said, adding that due to which they have to move to private internet centers, which was a very costly affair for gullible students. Pankaj Shrivastav, Dean Student Welfare said that he was unaware about defunct internet services for the last three months. On being asked if he was apprised by students nearly two months back, he said, that on the same day he had made a phone call to Chief Librarian for restoring the same. Chief Librarian Vivek Gupta said that due to flash thundering, the entire circuit of internet services was damaged. "The damages are huge, so without the recommendation of Library Committee, it is not possible to do such a costly work. Restoration work is almost complete and within few days, same will be restored and will made open for students", he said. |
