Baramulla, Mar 29 : Scores of farmers today staged a protest in Pattan town of Baramulla district of Kashmir against the railway authorities for not repairing a tunnel connecting to their fields and Railway Station which has turned into a waylay these days. According to eyewitness farmers and locals raising slogans against Railway authorities alleged that the Railway tunnel near Pattan has become a source of inconvenience to the general public especially for farmers of the area. "The condition of the tunnel is pathetic. There is mud, water logging and darkness around it while people are unable to cross it even during day time, they said , adding, "from past few years, we have been requesting the authorities concerned to repair it but nothing has been done so far due to which the common masses are facing numerous problems." Sources further said when the Railway Authorities started work for the rail track they had promised villagers that they will watch the interests of the common public of village but now the things are different on ground reality. A local resident of Pattan Nisar Ahmad added despite repeated pleas to the concerned department has turned deaf ear to the requests and has failed to address our grievances. "Nine years have passed since the department assured us that they will repair the tunnel but all in vain, said a local. Protestors also said that some insiders had informed that funds have been allocated for the macadamization of the tunnel but don't know fate of funds allocated and why work on tunnel was not started yet reasons best known to officials concerned. |
