Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 31: Polluted water consumed by people in Lasjan area has left hundreds of people including children ailing as the authorities have never bothered to clean the festering tank in which dead snakes and pigeons were found.
People in Lasjan area complained that the water supply scheme which was made functional during PDP-Congress rule in 2004 has turned into venom as besides mud and silt dead snakes and pigeons were found form the tank in which water is stored.
"Many children fell sick after drinking the contaminated water, we approached the concerned JE and other higher-ups to look into the issue however they didn't pay any heed to our concerns," Javaid Ahmad a resident claimed.
He said that the water supply scheme Lasjan was made functional in 2004 and since then the machinery has never been cleaned nor any official has been assigned for this job.
They said that the life of inhabitants of Lasjan and its adjoining areas has become hell due to the extremely casual approach adopted by the authorities.
''When we visited the site we find pigeons nest and some dead baby pigeons in tank, the water was already contaminated but the dead snakes and pigeons make it poisonous, when we approached officials about the issue they said that two employees have been assigned for cleaning of tank however we didn't find anyone there," Farooq Ahmad Rather another resident said.
They said that the JE concerned has been befooling residents by making false claims she will direct for cleaning of water tank butshe didn't take any concrete step in this regard.
When contacted Junior Engineer, Inha Manzoor she said that the water supply is smooth and there is no infection in it.
"There is no silt or any harmful substance in drinking water, people are making unnecessary issue, we have always ensured disease free water supply to consumers, and we will also provide safe drinking water to people in future," she added.
