| SKIMS gets public bashing on social networking sites | | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Mar 31: SKIMS, one of the premier health institutes of the state, has been receiving public bashing on social networking sites amid allegations of loot of public money and favouritism by the higher ups.
The bashing began after an ex-member of CAG's state advisory committee wrote on his facebook page that "he has strong reasons to believe that funds worth hundreds of crores provided by union and state governments for creating facilities at SKIMS, particularly for treatment of cancer, have either been swindled or left un-utilized by authorities."
Referring to a CAG report on SKIMS, he wrote that "the officials have failed to create the cancer treatment centre despite having funds available for it from the Centre."
"Surprisingly we were told that the money provided for treatment of poor patients was spent on the treatment of a chief secretary's mother-in-law," he wrote.
" Linear Accelerator, which according to technical experts would have cost Rs 10 cr, was procured for Rs 15 to 18 cr. Some say Rs 20 cr have been claimed on account of its acquisition. After installation, experts found it sub-standard," he said on his facebook page.
He said since the successive state governments had failed to take cognizance of the alleged loot and favoritism at SKIMS, governor N N Vohra should ask for a CBI probe in the matter.
This alleged revelation by the CAG's ex-member has turned people against SKIMS authorities.
One of the comments reads: "If it is enquired and found true, culprits should be hanged. This is all because of the disturbed situation that these people get a free hand to indulge in such crime by looting the money meant for relief of suffering humanity."
Some people, seeking attention of high court in this matter, said that a PIL in this matter in high court by a lawyer "is a good step and needs support to bring the culprits to book".
Another comment reads as: "SKIMS showed progress and development under the honest administration of a hard working doctor. The people, who are crying now that SKIMS is not working properly, had conspired then and got him removed because he did not allow any sort of corruption.
Later, he was even killed for this honesty by the people whom he served all his life. As sow so shall you reap. Kashmiri people just want chaos and confusion and no development. Life is so cheap in Kashmir that it has lost its value."
This alleged revelation about SKIMS has been a burning topic on social networking sites since Thursday and many Facebook and Whatsapp groups continue to share it for awareness among common masses.
Despite repeated attempts, SKIMS Director could not be contacted for his comments. |
