Nirmal may lose power, urban development portfolios | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 31: Nirmal Singh, the BJP's nominee for the deputy chief minister, is likely to be shifted from his earlier portfolios of power development and urban development. Sources said that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti may herself keep these two important portfolios and may give some other department to Nirmal Singh. According to the sources the PDP president has communicated to the BJP top leadership that these two portfolios are not only important for the quality development of the state but also to implement many central government schemes like smart cities and other small cities. 'Nimral Singh has failed to deliver much in the urban developments. He could not give vision and building bye-laws were floated. Many problems exist and he couldn't put his foot down. There has been many positive developments in this ministry in the Governor's rule and Mehbooba wants to carry it forward," said the sources,. Source said Mehbooba is also interested in it so that she can develop Jammu and Srinagar cities which if done could have huge political ramifications. According to these sources another point is that urban local body elections are coming up and she wants to hold them under her direct charge to ensure that these are held in a most credible manner which will be her first shot in the governance, According to the PDP sources the president Mehbooba Mufti has made it also clear that she wants to retain power ministry on many accounts. Source said since many allegations were made and reported in the media about financial irregularities in the department. Also, that he could not carry forward the central government schemes on improving power sector. Here also the pace has taken up only when Governor's rule. "Nirmal Singh couldn't handle the portfolios which was expected of him. Another reason that huge investment is to be made in the power sector and Mehbooba Mufti wants to personally see it that it is done in a transparent sector," said the PDP leader. |
