WD active in region, wet weather predicted for next 5 days

srinagar, Mar 31: A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) was active which could result in wet weather during the next five day in the region, including Kashmir valley, where sun was playing hide and seek today after recording above normal minimum temperature.
There was drop in the minimum temperature at Leh while it surge in border town of Kargil in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from Kashmir since December last year due to accumulation of snow. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be isolated rain in Kashmir and Jammu while weather will remain dry in Ladakh today as a fresh WD was active in the region.He said the weather will remain wet in Jammu and Kashmir till April 4.After recording above normal temperature, people in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar woke up to a partly cloudy sky. Sun was playing hide and seek after warm weather during the past few days.
Srinagar recorded further surge in the minimum temperature and settled at 8.5 degree, 2.5 notches above normal. However, sun was today playing hide and seek, forcing people to wear warm and woolen cloths again.He said there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 19 degree and 8 degree respectively in the city during the next 24 hours. However, the maximum temperature yesterday was 24.6 degree, seven notches above normal.
The minimum temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir and Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south, remained above normal, resulting in melting of stones on higher reaches. Met spokesman said that against 3.6 degree minimum temperature, it was 4.2 degree at Gulmarg, more than four notches above normal. Pahalgam, base camp of annual Amarnath pilgrimage in south Kashmir Himalayas, commencing in June, recorded 3.5 degree, 1.5 degree above normal. Tourist resort of Kokernag and Qazigund in south Kashmir besides Kupwara in north Kashmir also recorded above normal minimum temperature. Against yesterdays 3.9 degree minimum temperature it was 0.1 degree at Leh while at Kargil it was 1 degree against yesterdays minus 1.3 degree. The sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 13 degree and 2 degree respectively during the next 24 hours at Leh.
