Gurez road likely to open on April 25, Peer ki Gali on April 7

srinagar, Mar 31: The Divisional Commissioner Dr. Asgar Hassan amoon today chaired a meeting to review the road safety measures being taken by concerned departments in the valley. The meeting was attended by all the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir division, Transport Commissioner, PI Khateeb, DIG Traffic Ghulam Hassan Bhat, SSP City Traffic Maqsood-Ul-Zamaan, SP Traffic (Rural) Zubair Khan and RTO Kashmir.
During the meeting the Divisional Commissioner was informed that Gurez road is expected to be opened for vehicular traffic on April 25 while as Mughal Road on April 7 and Zojila pass on April 15.
The Div Com also reviewed road safety measures like regular inspection of vehicles on roads, checking driving licenses, deployment of more traffic police in urban and rural areas at crucial traffic points, installation of more traffic lights and checking overloading.
During the meeting, the officials gave their suggestions regarding smooth regulation of traffic and tackling the issues of congestion, encroachment and violation of traffic laws. The Deputy Commissioners informed the Divisional Commissioner that they have convened meetings of District level committees for smooth regulation of traffic in their respective districts.
Dr. Samoon asked the Deputy Commissioners to hold regular meetings with other stake holders for enforcement of smooth traffic system.
During the meeting, SP City Traffic informed the Divisional Commissioner that special drives for road safety, awareness and counselling of general public are being carried throughout the city with specific stress on the Do's and Dont's to prevent road accidents resulting due to over speeding, over loading, jumping of red signal, avoiding seat belts or crash helmets.
He further stated that during past two months 48 motor cycles were seized for rash driving and for doing stunts. He said 161 motor cyclists were found violating provisions of MV Act rules were called to his office along with their parents for counselling.
